![]() Spotlight on SERVICE - Senior Rotarians High School seniors are given the unique opportunity to apply to be a Senior Rotarian early in their senior year of high school. Our club's Board Members and Senior Rotarian committee processes these applications and decides which student applicants best fit the requirements of being chosen as a Senior Rotarian. The committee bases their decision not only on grade point average but also on school, academic, and extracurricular activities and community involvement.
This year, we have selected 16 students as Senior Rotarians. They are scheduled on a monthly basis to attend our weekly Wednesday Rotary meetings and introduce themselves, tell us about themselves and their parents, as well as their future plans, and provide updates about what is going on at their school. They are also invited and encouraged to participate in our clubís service projects.
Not only does being a Senior Rotarian look GREAT on the studentís resumeí and college applications, it provides them with a unique opportunity for public speaking as well as to learn about Rotary and the opportunity Rotary provides for service. Senior Rotarians are also eligible to apply for the annual Rotary Scholarship. For the 2008-09 school year, we awarded a $1,000 renewable scholarship (for up to 4 years of college) as well as a $500 one-time scholarship to well-deserving Senior Rotarians.
