October is Rotary Vocational Service Month

Vocational Service focuses on:

·   Adherence to and promotion of the highest ethical standards in all occupations, including fair treatment of employers, employees, associates, competitors, and the public.

·   The recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, not just those that are pursued by Rotarians.

·   The contribution of your vocational talents to solving the problems of society and meeting the needs of the community.

During October, Rotarians are encouraged to focus on this important avenue of Rotary service. Discussions on vocational service can lead to projects that not only develop the ethical consciousness and vocational skills of Rotarians but also the talents within their communities. Vocational Service Month is an opportunity to begin year-long vocational service activities, ranging from Rotary discussions to awards to community projects.

Rotarian of the Day… Lowell Hatcher

Lowell grew up in West Texas, which is a pretty big area. Moving to Vinita in 1961, he lived West of Vinita and was able to graduate from VHS. He furthered his education experience at Northeastern State University at Tahlequah where he received his B.A. and Masters Degrees. Lowell has been gainfully employed at the First National Bank of Vinita for over twenty years. He joined Rotary in 1988 and was sponsored by O.B. Johnston. Lowell is married to Linda and they have two daughters and two grandsons who live in the Dallas area. In his spare time Lowell enjoys fishing anywhere in this country and all over the world.

Thought for the day…

“Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve…You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love, and you can be that servant.”                                          --Martin Luther King, Jr.

                                          U.S. Civil Rights Leader, 1929-68

Don’t Forget Your Food Items…

During the entire month of October, we are having a Food Drive every Wednesday at our Rotary meetings to benefit the Salvation Army’s Food Pantry. Don’t forget to bring your canned or non-perishable food items to contribute!

Spotlight on SERVICE...Concession Stand

In 2005, the Vinita Rotary Club built the Concession Stand at the Bill Morgan Sports Complex in Vinita for our Rotary Centennial Project. This project is much more than a concession stand, and also includes bathrooms and an upstairs press box.

Hundreds of children, parents, coaches and spectators visit the Sports Complex each year. Baseball tournaments are hosted with visitors coming from near and far to enjoy the facilities.

The bathrooms at the Bill Morgan Sports Complex are in need of maintenance. Our club has received a District Simplified Grant to cover the cost of repair materials. A work day will be scheduled. Please plan to assist with this important upkeep project!
