Rotarian of the Day…Jimmie Ownbey

Jimmie grew up in Spearman, Texas, the son of a farmer/rancher. He spent more time in the saddle and behind a plow than he'd like to remember. Graduating from high school in 1965, he attended two years at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas playing football there one year. Then he transferred to Texas A & M, College Station, Texas where he received a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science in 1969 and his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1972.

Dr. Ownbey moved to Vinita in 1973 with Susan, his high school sweetheart, and their two children Tim and Liz. His third child, Sara arrived in 1982, the only "Okie" of the family. Tim has 2 boys and 2 girls, Liz has 2 boys and Sara is expecting her 1st in January.

He is most proud of his wife, Susan, teaching math at the middle school; his son Tim, a graduate of OSU School of Osteopathic Medicine, board certified in Neurology, living in Albuquerque, NM. His daughter Liz, living in Tulsa, has a B.S. in nursing from OU and a masters in Business administration. His daughter Sara, who lives in Edmond, has a B.S. from OSU in Microbiology and is a graduate from OSU School of Osteopathic Medicine. Sara is doing her year of residency in family practice in Oklahoma City.

While in Vinita, Jimmie co-founded Hope Vineyard Church in the mid 80's.

December is Family Month…
December is Family Month. It is a time to focus on our families, to involve them in our Rotary service, and to challenge ourselves to do even more for those in need. Because

there are so many families and so many children waiting for our help, we, as Rotarians, cannot look away. We will not rest until we Make Dreams Real for every

child in every home where there is hunger, sickness, and want. As Rotarians, we can do no less.

Rotary Foundation

Humanitarian Grants Program

--Rotary Basics

The Rotary Foundation of RI is a not-for-profit corporation whose mission is to support the efforts of Rotary International in the fulfillment of the Object of Rotary,

Rotary's mission, and the achievement of world understanding and peace through local, national, and international humanitarian, educational, and cultural programs.

Humanitarian Grants Program Humanitarian grants enable Rotarians to increase their support of international service projects that provide water wells, medical care, iteracy classes, and other essentials to people in need. Rotarian participation is key to the success of these projects.

District Simplified Grants enable districts to support service activities or humanitarian endeavors that benefit the local or international communities.

Volunteer Service Grants help cover the travel of individual Rotarians and their spouses as they plan needed projects or provide essential services in a community.

Matching Grants assist Rotary clubs and districts in carrying out humanitarian projects with clubs in other countries.

Health, Hunger and Humanity (3-H) Grants fund long-term, self-help, and grassroots development projects that are too large for one club or district to carry out on its own.
