Rotarian of the Day . . . Peggy Bailey

Peggy was born in Akron, OH but grew up in San Diego, CA where she graduated from high school.  She married Leroy in 1973 and they have four children, eight Grandchildren & 2.9 Great Grandchildren.  They moved to Vinita in 1992.

Peggy has been in the real estate business since 1977 and with Century 21 since 1998.  She is currently the broker/owner of Century 21 Showcase Properties in Vinita and is thrilled that the street renovation is now complete.  She has 4 Agents to handle all types of Real Estate transactions.  She taught a pre-licensing Real Estate course for 4 years at Afton Vo-Tech, and is Past President of Northeast Oklahoma Board of Realtors for year 2006 and was also Realtor of the Year.

Active in the community, she served as Oktoberfest Chairman for 6 years. She joined Rotary in 2001 and was sponsored by Dan Janis.  Due to recent health issues, she has been forced to cut back on her activities, but in her heart she is still wanting to be more active.

She said she doesn't have time for hobbies but enjoys going to Branson. She makes time for her favorite "doggy" companions, Molly and Bear.

About The Rotarian

History

The first issue of The National Rotarian was published in January 1911. This 12-page tabloid was considered the best way to distribute an essay written by Rotary founder Paul Harris. The essay was titled, "Rational Rotarianism." There was also club news and advertisements. About 2,000 copies were produced by printer Harry Ruggles, one of the first members of the Rotary Club of Chicago. Soon the issue went back to press for another 2,000 copies. Seventeen Nobel Prize winners and 19 Pulitzer Prize winners have written for the magazine. A partial list of eminent contributors includes: Thomas Mann, Edith Wharton, Knute Rockne, Frank Lloyd Wright, Mahatma Gandhi, Winston Churchill, Helen Keller, Eleanor Roosevelt, Norman Vincent Peale, Pearl S. Buck, Lowell Thomas, Betty Friedan, Willy Brandt, Javier Perez de Cuellar, Arthur C. Clarke, Richard Armour, Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., Rabbi Harold Kushner, Isaac Asimov, Cleveland Amory, Octavio Paz, and Jimmy Carter.

 Spotlight On Service...Camp RYLA

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

In 1959, Australian Rotarians decided to hold a youth festival. Fifty years later, the program that grew out of that event‚ Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA)‚ continues to provide a way for clubs and districts to support the next generation of leaders. At workshops and camps, participants ages 14 to 30 develop leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills while having fun and making new friends. An International RYLA, held each year before the RI Convention, gives young people a chance to tackle global issues with their peers from other countries.

This year, Camp RYLA will be held April 22-25, 2010. Visit www.rotary.org/ryla for more details.
